100 Year Anniversary.

Sunday 11th November 2018 - Camposol, Near Mazarron, Murcia.

We found Daisy and Helen's house without a problem but couldn't fit the van on the drive.  We managed to get it in the next door neighbours drive with a couple of inches spare on either side.  The area is called an 'urbanisation', a bit like a new town that has been created with ex-pats in mind.  It is another Little Britain in Spain but I completely see the attraction.

The house has everything that someone could want.

It was great to see Daisy and Helen again and we have had such a great laugh.  On Friday evening we went to the village centre to see the bar that Daisy works at and to have an Indian meal.  Everyone in the bar was English and very friendly, there is a real sense of community.

Saturday was a lovely lazy day.  We had a late Spanish style breakfast made by Helen.

It was poached eggs in a tomato sauce with toasted bread.  It was so tasty...mmm.  Then an afternoon of sun bathing and a swim in the very chilly pool.

Another advantage of staying with someone was the luxury of watching TV.  We watched England get narrowly beaten by the All Blacks in an exciting game that England could have won.  Later we watched Strictly Come Dancing and the Service of Rememberance at the Albert Hall, commemorating the 100 years since the end of the First World War.  My nephew Oliver marched down the steps to represent the Scout Movement.  His family will be very proud.

Whilst the day was a lazy one, we never stopped chatting and laughing with Daisy and Helen.

Today we have been to the local Rememberance Service.  It was even better attended than in the UK. We all got a bit emotional at various hymns that we sang, especially 'Abide with Me' and 'Amazing Grace'.  It was a bit bizarre doing a service like that in glorious sunshine wearing shorts, T Shirt and sandals.  We went back to the bar where Daisy works and they had a free buffet on to celebrate the 100th Anniversary.  Everyone was so friendly, there is a good community spirit here.

There were several ex-military people with medals.  As a result we have allocated ranks to each other....I am the Inspector, Daisy is Sergeant, Helen is Corporal (she was in the Army) and Janice is a a lowley Constable.  I have tried to I still some discipline into the group but it isn't so easy.  There is mutiny in the ranks!

In the evening we invited Daisy and Helen round to the van and had cheese and biscuits and a game of whist.  I have never known such a competitive game of whist.  Helen and I were narrowly beaten by the upstarts of Daisy and Janice.
