Tapas on the brain!

Monday 12th November 2018 - Camposol, Nr Mazarron.

We are staying an extra night with Daisy and Helen and thought it was about time we expended some energy by riding into the Puerto de Mazarron.  It is so brilliant cycling in a warm temperature.

We left the twilight zone of Camposol, where the British have independent rule, to get down to the beach.  Helen told us that Camposol isn't adopted by the local services, so the roads don't get repaired and it doesn't get policed!  There are various British voluntary groups who patch the road surface, do the landscaping, provide 24hr security patrols and provide a fast medical response in the area.  It's nice to see self help groups doing things that wouldn't be dreamt of back home.  Back in Britain we have developed a sense of entitlement where the state has to provide all support services and people won't work to help themselves or others for the common good.  Spain also has a health care system where people have to contribute financially a bit like the French system.  Helen is an experienced nurse and thinks that the Spanish health system is much better than the NHS...it treats people immediately when the people need it and doesn't delay tests and treatments...proper preventative treatments.

I think Puerto is still pretty dominated by the Brits but there is at least a good range of Spanish infrastructure.

The beach area was especially nice because it was so quiet.  We have a tapas lunch at a beach front restaurant.  They were offering a two course meal with bread and wine for 10 euros a person.  Fantastic value.  We just had three tapas dishes.

The plate on the left is a Russian Salad, nearest in the right is a Spanish Black Pudding and the other is Tuna in tomato sauce.  It was all lovely, the most expensive thing we bought was the Cola.

We may have another look around tomorrow.  There is a museum, a lighthouse, a statue of Jesus on a hill and something about a Phoenician boat?

On the way back we called at a supermarket and bought ingredients for a Jambalaya meal.  In the evening we played a music quiz game called Buzz on the PlayStation.  What a laugh we had.  Here is a photo of the screen.....

I won despite a strong challenge by Daisy.
